Training & Consultation
The Francis Foundation provides training and consultation to service provider agencies that struggle with supporting individuals with emotional, behavioral, or developmental disabilities.
Many clinical interventions and services available today are based on outdated versions of what drives human behavior and primarily focus on providing consequences for so-called “inappropriate” behavior. Often people with these challenges develop a pejorative reputation; their behavior is labeled attention seeking or manipulative. Rarely are these behaviors recognized for what they are, an inability to regulate emotions, feel safe with others, and move towards the things they want most in life.
Our approach uses a trauma-informed clinical model that acknowledges how one’s experience shapes behavior, how those behaviors are brought into the present, and how best to support people to change. We incorporate the perspective of neurophysiology, evolutionary biology, and developmental psychology in designing our treatment strategies.
